The cylinder mold rotates continuously in the pulp vat. The fibers in the pulp adhere to the surface of the cylindrical mold, gradually forming a fiber mat or web. As the cylinder mold continues to rotate, the water is sucked out through the wire with the help of additional suction boxes or foils. Once the fiber mat reaches the end of the cylinder mold, it is transferred to a continuous belt of felt or fabric that carries it into the press section of the paper machine.

 

Cylinder molds are critical to achieving uniform sheet formation and controlling sheet properties such as thickness and smoothness. Cylinder mold can handle a variety of paper grades and furnish types, giving paper mills flexibility in production.
